Directions & Parking Information

The John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse is located at 1 Courthouse Way in the Seaport neighborhood of Boston. We highly recommend traveling to the courthouse by public transportation.

MBTA

The Moakley Courthouse is located directly on the Silver Line at the Courthouse Station Stop. The courthouse is a 15-minute walk from the Red Line and Commuter Rail at South Station, a 16-minute walk from the Blue Line at the Aquarium Station, and an 18-minute walk from the Orange Line at Downtown Crossing.

Parking

There is NO parking available at the Moakley Courthouse, and street parking is limited in the seaport area. There are several commercial parking lots and garages around the courthouse.

Courthouse Regulations & Security

All adults visiting the courthouse will be required to show photo identification to enter the courthouse. Visitors will be required to walk through a metal detector and have belongings checked by an X-Ray Machine. Food and drink, including water, will not be allowed in the courthouse.

Please note that electronics aren’t allowed inside the Moakley Courthouse. This includes things like:

  • Cell phones
  • Laptops
  • Smart watches
  • Earbuds and headphones
  • Portable chargers
  • Charging cords

Photography

Due to the Rules of the John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse, photography is NOT allowed in the courthouse. We know you are eager to document your trip! We recommend that photos be taken outside the courthouse at the Harbor Park entrance or the entrance on Northern Avenue. Thank you for your cooperation.

Food & Drink

Food and drink, including water, cannot be brought into the courthouse.

The courthouse has a cafe featuring a grill station, sandwich station, and salad bar with reasonable prices. If you are a group larger than 10 that is interested in visiting the cafe, please let us know at least 2 weeks prior to your visit.

Kayla Nordman

Kayla Nordman believes strongly in expanding access to comprehensive civic education to provide the next generation with the resources they need to uphold and expand upon the values of American democracy and create a more equitable future. Before joining Discovering Justice, she worked as a Legislative Intern at the Massachusetts State House and as a Program Manager for the Massachusetts Center for Civic Education. Kayla graduated from Suffolk University with a BA in International Relations.
